About Me

After receiving my PhD in Clinical Psychology at UNC-Chapel Hill, I became a post-doctoral fellow and then a faculty member in the UNC Department of Psychiatry. As an Assistant Professor at UNC, I primarily offered psychotherapy while also supervising trainees and conducting research. I have since transitioned to full-time private practice, exclusively offering therapy because of the great meaning and possibility that I experience in working with clients. I approach this work with deep care, respect, and appreciation for the opportunity to walk alongside clients in their lives.

My approach to therapy has been shaped by years of study, mentorship, and practice. I have been practicing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy since 2010 and offering this approach in individual and group therapy in the years since. As a faculty member at UNC, I trained extensively with Dr. Kelly Wilson, co-founder of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which deepened my practice and my approach to therapy. My work in this space has taught me the importance of helping clients access their own innate wisdom to facilitate connectedness, both to the themselves and the world around them.

I also specialize in offering couples therapy. As a doctoral student, I was mentored and supervised by Dr. Donald Baucom, founder of Cognitive Behavioral Couples Therapy. Under Dr. Baucom, I spent five years learning and practicing in the UNC Couples Lab and use this evidence-based framework to help couples move toward relationships with greater understanding, connection, and support. A core part of my approach to this work is helping couples to cultivate skills for increasing healthy communication, understanding (both for self and the other), and empathy.
